VEHR: The Visual EHR
EHRs are built around data entry, not clinical thinking—slowing decisions and fragmenting care.

Working with a visionary clinician, I led design that mapped clinical mental models into interface logic—providing clinicians with intuitive workflows and engineers a clear blueprint to build from.

Design System

Dell Children's Patient Portal

The original portal wasn’t compliant with Medicaid guidelines and used an outdated design that was not usable on mobile devices.

I partnered with engineering and product to redesign the patient portal from the ground up - implementing a mobile-friendly interface with a modern design system, and introducing novel features to achieve Medicaid compliance - all while meeting a tight deadline and securing stakeholder buy-in.

FreseniusRX Refill Workflow

I uncovered complex backend workflows and key pain points nurses faced—insights that shaped a solution designed to meet real-world clinical needs.

I streamlined a manual refill workflow into a faster, safer digital experience with enhanced patient oversight, reducing refill time by 70% in 2,800+ locations.

Weave

Uncovered major usability issues in a complex visual collaboration platform - where users struggled to find key assets and navigate gameplay flows- leading to frustration, lack of engagement and drop-off.

I redesigned a visual collaboration platform from the ground up, partnering with engineering and leadership to streamline gameplay, surface key assets, and support a successful acquisition.

Seniors navigating Medicare Part D face a complex, overwhelming process—exacerbated by modern app conventions that don’t align with their mental models, vision limitations, or dexterity challenges.

I designed a plan selection app that simplified complex choices for seniors through user-centered flows, validated research, and close collaboration with Picwell’s product and engineering teams.

How I design,
and why it matters to me.
I try to ask thoughtful questions to make sense of complex systems.
I synthesize, prototype, and test to explore ideas.
I build with engineers - to stay aligned and make the biggest impact.

I studied Human Factors Engineering with a focus on medical devices and systems, sharpening the research tools I bring to design. I also took health science courses - from medical terminology to psychology — to better understand how healthcare providers think and work.

I’m always expanding my lens through research, collaboration, and listening to those closest to care.

I work in healthcare because I’ve seen how great care can change a life - mine included. My goal is to make complex systems feel clear and empowering for clinicians, patients, and everyone in between.

Doctor and Design Researcher

The Electronic Health Record (EHR) interface is the cornerstone tool through which clinicians review, interpret, create and curate patient data.

David has been pivotal in my work with the NHS to test and refine a novel EHR interface that mirrors clinical reasoning.

Co-founder at VEHR Technologies

As a first time founder, David's guidance in the redesign of our innovative medical data display has been crucial. By guiding our team through object mapping for complex processes, and translating this into high fidelity wireframe representations, David's work greatly advanced the quality and timeline of our team's efforts.

UX Architect, same team at Fresenius Medical Care.

David’s initiative in building our UI/UX architecture from scratch and his innovative approach have made a significant impact, particularly in the Clinic Managers & Field Leadership apps. His attention to detail and design expertise have been pivotal in shaping the Salesforce CareTeamHub applications.

Product Manager same team at United Healthgroup

David has a product and user mindset, thinks outside the box, and is undaunted in exploring new concepts. His creativity, proactive approach, and willingness to iterate make him a great asset for redefining design boundaries.

Full stack engineer. same at Optimal Vision Prototype

David's work on our team made my job as a Software Engineer much easier. Knowing that he had already put in the hard work necessary to come up with a trustworthy design, that wasn't going to have to be brought back to the drawing board… I was also really impressed with David’s design knowledge and how he worked with our clinical experts to incorporate their domain knowledge into his designs.
